Word of the Day is designed to help children learn how to use a dictionary, whilst simultaneously expanding their vocabulary. Today’s Word of the Day begins with the letter ‘P’. The word is: Parachute.parachute n. Umbrella-shaped apparatus of silk or other material attached by ropes to person or heavy object falling or being dropped from a height, esp. from aircraft, and designed to be expanded by the air it is falling through (or other means) and by its resulting drag to reduce the speed of falling to some desired limit, usu. one consistent with safety; ~ troops, invading troops landing from aircraft by parachute. v. Convey, descend, by parachute.
