More pupils to learn languages – information from the CfBT Education Trust

Good news! – The DFE is funding a support programme to get more pupils learning languages successfully.

The CfBT Education Trust, now incorporating the team from CILT has recently been informed by the DFE that their bid to support the new Teaching School Alliances in the area of languages education at both primary and secondary levels has been successful. The Trust now has the opportunity to raise standards in languages teaching/learning in schools across the country.

The DFE will provide funding for this support programme until March 2013. The overarching aim is to work closely with Teaching School Alliances to develop the sharing of current outstanding practice in languages education and to improve standards wherever there is evidence that additional help is needed in order to get more pupils learning languages and learning them successfully.

Priscilla Hannaford, co-owner of Brilliant Publications – a leading publisher of primary modern foreign languages resources, is delighted to hear of this definite commitment from the DFE towards MFL. “Our MFL resources are designed for use by nonspecialist teachers” Priscilla says, “but teachers urgently need training for primary MFL to be succcessful.”
