Learning through failure: can we teach children to be smarter?

The importance of nurturing a ‘growth mindset’, as developed by Carol Dweck, seems to be one of the ‘big things’ in education in the UK today. However, most articles I’ve read have dealt with the theory, rather than how it actually works in operation. Therefore I was very interested to read the following article, by a teacher in Ireland, about how her school went about implementing a growth mindset culture.

I particularly like this quote from one child: “In maths we were learning about polygons. I really am finding maths super fun after the mindset talk. I don’t know what it is about this mindset thing but I hope more schools get this because it does improve your mind a lot!”
